A few days ago, the Cannes Film Festival unveiled its selection. Our predictions were not far off! Here are the details of this selection:

Four daughters

Jeunesse

Liming is a working class district near Shanghai, the richest city in China. Every year, many young people leave their villages to settle here. They are between 17 and 20 years old and all come from the rural province of Yunnan, 2,500 km to the west, where the Yangtze River originates. These young Yunnanese often live at their place of work, in dormitories, unsanitary rooms, or sometimes in small studios. They lack the time and space to meet each other. So they communicate via QQ, MSN China. They live like adults but they are teenagers, and the unstable situation, the economic pressures, the geographical dispersion, burn their innocence and their youth. Wang Bing spends a year with them in Liming: at work, at home, on the Internet, every day of their professional, romantic and friendly relationships. At the end of the year, he will follow them in the opposite direction, to their home province, to find their families and celebrate the Chinese New Year.
